Include Benefits

True sustainability involves all three aspects of organizational impacts:  environment, economy and social/equity.

Benefits associated with your operations need to be included in the metrics and reporting – not just avoidance of negative impacts.  By taking a comprehensive, broad look across the true sustainability spectrum, real business opportunity can be found.  Significant savings can accrue from taking advantage of synergies through building on your existing core and business strategy.  A “sustainability” program must be linked with related operational programs:  regulatory compliance, business planning, R&D/product development, supply chain interactions (suppliers, toll manufacturers, distributors, customers), public and stockholder interactions.
